The twenty seven acre Sandhills Horticultural Gardens is comprised of several smaller gardens. In 1978, the garden was started with the Ebersole Holly Garden. Additional gardens were created over the years and now include the Rose Garden, the Conifer Garden, the Sir Walter Raleigh Garden, the Hillside Garden, the Fruit & Vegetable Garden, and the Desmond Native Wetland Trail Garden.
The gardens are open to the public from daybreak until dark all year. There is not admission charge. There is a very nice new visitor's center and great parking. If you walk back to the reservoir in the Wetlands Garden, you may even see otters, as I did the last time I visited.
