The Moore County Historical Association manages the historic site where the Shaw house originally was built in the early 1800s. They acquired the property in 1946 from the Shaw family. They later relocated and restored other historic homes from nearby properties. These properties include the Sanders Cabin and Garner House.
The Shaw HouseCharles C. Shaw, a first-generation Scottish settler, acquired 2,500 acres at the cross roads of the Revolutionary Pee Dee and Morganton Roads. Here, Shaw built his home around 1820. There were a few additions to the structure over the years. The home represents typical construction of early Sandhills settler's in the Antebellum era.
The Sanders Cabin
The one room cabin was relocated from Northern Moore County to the Morganton Road site. Built in the late 1700s, it was in serious disrepair, but was restored and is now open to tour. It is typical of Scot-German construction with hewn logs.
The Garner House
This house, built somewhere between the late 1700s and early 1800s, was also relocated to the site and is open.
All of the homes are furnished with period furniture and household items. During the holidays, refreshments are often offered. There is a gift shop where one can purchase books and photos.
