Learn about the historic beginnings of Pinehurst and it's founder James Walker Tufts. Tufts, a native of Massachusetts, was the founder of the American Soda Fountain Company. At the age of 15, he began working in a drug store, and by 21, owned two stores of his own. His soda fountain dispenser made of marble and silver is on display in the archives among many other interesting things. Be sure to see the sand green located outside. Bring your clubs or borrow some inside to play a historical recreation of the sand green.
Read and see photos of the sporting activities of polo, hunting, horse racing, and of course, golf. The archives also houses the original sketches and drawings of famed golf architect Donald Ross.
